From Friday, March 10 to Sunday, March 12, BHS actors and crewmembers presented Letters to Sala, a remarkable story of a young girl’s survival during wartime Germany through over 350 hidden letters. While BHS students and families enjoyed the unique and emotional plot of the spring play over the weekend, Burlingame elementary school fifth graders were invited to have an exclusive first “preview” on the Thursday, March 9, one day before the opening weekend.

This was the first time the BHS play has put on a full preview before a production with such a young audience. Junior and actress Halle Friedeberg valued the experience, as the cast and crew used their “mini” audience for practice right before the show.

“I thought that the preview was really meaningful,” Friedeberg said. “It was a chance for us to get word out about the show right before opening weekend while also practicing for our opening.”

While the cast and crew members benefitted from the preview, it was also a memorable trip for the fifth grade audience.

“While we got our practice, the fifth graders got to have a little field trip,” Friedeberg said. “They were super adorable and very polite. They seemed to enjoy the play a lot.”
