Former BHS student and Hillsborough resident, Nathaniel Crosby, son of the late Bing Crosby, has been selected to captain the US golf team in the 2019 Walker Cup.
Nathaniel Crosby first played golf at the Burlingame Country Club and eventually went on to play golf at BHS. After graduating from the BHS class of 79’, Crosby later won the U.S Amateur Golf Championship in 1981 at 19 years of age. He eventually made the US team in 1983 that won the Walker Cup.
"I am thrilled and overwhelmed to be chosen captain of the next USA Walker Cup team," Crosby said.
Crosby’s professional career was short lived before turning to more business related careers in golf club manufacturing and golf real estate.
“So when Diana Murphy [the United States Golf Association president] called me, I was extremely surprised,” Crosby said. “For someone that has something to say about everything, I was taken aback. I had a serious loss of breath when she told me I would be the next Walker Cup captain."
Nathaniel Crosby is now placed in the BHS Athletic Hall of Fame, run by the Burlingame High School Alumni Association, for his career in golf. The 2019 Walker Cup will be held at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England from Sept. 8 to Sept. 9.
