Girls Varsity Volleyball off to a great start

The start of the year inevitably means the start of fall sports and the girl's varsity volleyball season is already well underway. This year the roster consists of 14 players and the team captains include seniors Siobhan Healy, Kyra Novitzky, and Katie Karson.

Every new school year, sports teams must focus on making adjustments as they lose and gain new players. When asked about the changes the girl's volleyball team has faced, Novitzky commented, “Since we only lost three seniors this year, the biggest, and really only, change that we’ve had to make recently is getting used to a new setter. We had our previous setter on the varsity team for four years, so it has been difficult adjusting, but Edwena [Wong] has been doing a great job at stepping in and taking that leadership role on the court.”

The team has been practicing since early August, and league games kicked off in the second week of September. In the preseason games, the team won against San Mateo, SF Waldorf, and Lincoln SF while facing losses against St. Ignatius, Los Altos Notre Dame, and Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep.

Novitzky expressed the team’s hope for the season, “We’re looking forward to CCS the most this year, which we are expecting to make ... The past few years we have lost in the semi-finals, so this year we’re really hoping to go farther than we’ve ever gone.” After two league games, the team’s record has moved to 2-0.
