Boys’ lacrosse looks to defend division title

Despite a bumpy start, the boys’ lacrosse team is looking ahead to a great season. Their frst preseason game was against tough opponent Serra High School, losing 13-1.

The team faced Sacred Heart Prep at home for the second game and lost. Despite these frst two losses, the Panthers are optimistic about this upcoming season.

“I am looking forward to having a good time with my team and hopefully winning our division.

“Our team is getting a lot better at executing our offense and working together,” junior Ben Shaffer said.

New coach Kevin Arabejo is a player on the Philippines national lacrosse team, and the boys are excited about the knowledge he will bring to this season.

“Our new coach is providing us lots of expert knowledge from years of experience, it will just take some getting used to our new play style,” junior Jackson Gilmour said.

The lacrosse team has a tough schedule this year, facing private schools such as Jesuit, St. Mary’s and Saint Francis. They did, however, win their division last year. They will once again play in the PAL Ocean Division, along with Aragon, Carlmont and Sequoia. Last year, the boys fnished 15-7 and frst in the Ocean Division and made it to CCS.

This year, the boys are hoping to win their division once again and head to CCS.

“I’m looking forward to playing the teams in our division and winning the division title two years in a row, I’m confdent in our chances,” Gilmour said.

Junior Eoghan Treanor is also excited about the season.

“We’ve lost a lot of asset players this year but we have some promising new sophomores and juniors on varsity this year,” Treanor said. “Our team was pretty shaky to begin with but I can see our team shaping up pretty nicely as we start to work together smoother.”
