On April 25-27, sophomore Evan Mahaffey, junior Oliver Nix and junior Cale Goodman competed in the boys’ tennis PAL tournament held at BHS. Mahaffey and Nix competed in doubles, while Goodman competed in Singles.
In singles, Goodman was seeded seventh in the bay division, so his first round was a bye round, bringing him to his first match against El Camino, which he won 6-0, 6-0. However, in the semifinals against Half Moon Bay, he lost 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles, Mahaffey and Nix were seeded eighth in the Bay Division, so their first round was a bye round as well. Their first match was against Woodside, which they won 6-0, 6-0. However, they met a similar fate as Goodman, and were eliminated in the semifinals against Menlo-Atherton, 6-0, 6-1.
“It went pretty well, and I’m proud of how we played,” said Mahaffey, right after his game against M-A. “We just needed to play at a better level, and just hit our best shots all the time to compete with [Menlo Atherton]. Next year we’ll be back and we’ll hopefully be a little bit better."
