Boys’ basketball gears up for final quad of the season

After an 0-10 start in the preseason, the boys’ varsity basketball team is looking to rebuild their league record before the playoffs.

“I feel alright about the season so far,” senior Robert Bonnici said. “I think we have underperformed a bit because at the beginning of the season I believed that we had a-lot of potential, but I still think we have a chance of finishing the season strong and making CCS.”

The Panthers are 2-6 in the season now, with big wins against Hillsdale, 61-56, and Woodside, 49-41. Bonnici credits the teams improvement from the start of the season to the team’s improvement on the defensive side of the game.

The last quad of the season is this Friday, Feb. 9 against San Mateo High School. The Panthers narrowly lost to San Mateo 48-44 at the away quad on Jan. 26. The quad is not only a rivalry quad but is also senior night.

“I am most looking forward to senior night versus San Mateo because it’ll be my last home game of high school basketball,” Bonnici said. “It’s bittersweet being a senior because it’s been a fun season but it’ll also be sad when we’re finished because it’ll be our last year of playing together.”

Senior Robert Uhrich sinks a three in the boys' varsity basketball game against Cappuccino High School on Jan. 19. The Panthers lost in overtime 46-41.
