Wrestling hopes to defend their 4-0 record

The wrestling team boasts a 4-0 undefeated record in dual meets so far in the season. The loss of key players from last season has been mitigated by several new wrestlers who are eager to learn.

Senior captain Andrew Slaboda expresses his satisfaction with the progress of the team.

“We have a lot of young wrestlers who are constantly improving and dedicated veteran wrestlers who are proving to be leaders and mentors for them,” Slaboda said. “We hope to keep our winning streak going in dual meets.”

Coach Eric Bothello, who is in his eleventh year with the Burlingame team, also emphasizes the success from the season so far.

“The kids are wrestling really well,” Bothello said. “We have a great mix of wrestlers. We have a young team-- lots of freshmen and sophomores.”

Bothello is most impressed by the upperclassmen wrestlers that have stepped up in the absence of senior wrestlers from last year, namely Cole Friedlander and Arman Dizadji.

“The seniors on the team have really stepped up and become good leaders, particularly captain Andrew Slaboda,” Bothell said. “He’s great with the young wrestlers and teaches them with his experience.”

Since this article has gone in print, the team has had one dual meet on Feb. 1 at home against Menlo Atherton. Make sure to come support the team tonight at their dual meet against Half Moon Bay at HMB.
