On Friday, Feb. 9, the boys’ basketball team took to the court for their final home quad of the season against rival San Mateo High School. The Panthers lost 49-39 to the Bearcats after a hard-fought game.

Before the game, the seniors on both the varsity cheerleading squad and the boys’ varsity basketball team were honored. Each member walked out onto the court with their families; many of the moms of basketball players walked out wearing their sons jersey. It was a long ceremony, as the cheerleading team has 10 seniors and the basketball team boasts a huge 12 seniors on the team.

Both schools came out in numbers, with Burlingame seniors awaiting their fellow classmates to be named during senior night festivities and other students coming out to support Burlingame in their rivalry quad. San Mateo came out in their usual orange and black.

The game went back and forth, with San Mateo High School barely in the lead 21-18 at half. The Panthers couldn’t hold on at the end of the 4th quarter, and fell 10 points behind when the buzzer sounded at the end of the game.

Despite the loss, the night was regarded by all as a memorable one for seniors, parents, and fans.
