Stephanie Lee, Burlingame’s newest physical education (PE) teacher, is excited to get to know her students this year. Previously, Lee taught science at two other schools in the Bay Area: Archbishop Riordan, a Catholic high school in San Francisco, and Parkside Middle School. When a job opportunity to teach PE at Burlingame popped up over the summer, Lee chose to apply. She’s always wanted to be a PE teacher because of how fun the job appeared to be.

Lee has numerous goals this year. Although she wants to see overall improvement among her students, she is more focused on teaching students to establish a  growth mindset. Additionally, she hopes students will take away a few key things from  PE.

“I wish students took away being able to work with others no matter their ability as well as finding something that they enjoy that will improve the overall health of their body,” Lee said.

Lee cares about each and every student and wants all students to feel supported, safe and comfortable in all circumstances. She also appreciates working with the kids in an environment outside of a traditional classroom.

When Lee isn’t teaching, she likes to read, cook, hike, and try new things. Lee also loves to support her students in after-school activities.

“I love supporting my students’ extracurricular activities, and I love to go watch them do what

they do best,” Lee said.

Although it’s Lee’s first year teaching PE, she has high hopes for the school year.

“I don’t really know about my impact as a PE teacher yet since it’s been about a month, but I would say overall, I feel like I create an environment where students should feel safe and comfortable and know that they have a teacher in their corner no matter what,” Lee said.
