Students and teachers in Burlingame were forced to resort to old-fashioned methods, such as burning a candle, during power outages caused by the bomb cyclone.

The San Mateo Union High School District plans to push back the date for which schools will reopen. This is in response to Gov. Gavin Newsom's stay-at-home orders, an issue San Mateo County is expected to soon follow, that will create restrictions on the ability of schools to reopen for in-person learning.
