Released on Dec. 25, 2025, “Anaconda” is an action-adventure comedy horror movie starring Jack Black as Doug McCallister and Paul Rudd as Ronald “Griff” Griffin Jr. The story follows lifelong friends who travel to the Amazon to recreate the original “Anaconda” movie, a film they created together as children. Things go wrong when the duo, along with their two other friends, encounter a real anaconda, mimicking the plot of the original movie.
While I enjoyed the comedic moments, the plot was mediocre at best. I didn’t like the mid-movie plot twist, where a stranger the duo meets in Brazil turns out to be the villain. In contrast to the real dangers in the movie, such as the snake, the twist seemed irrelevant. Still, the comedic moments were well executed, and the timing of the jokes was always right.
The acting was solid, but not mindblowing. However, I enjoyed the casting of Kenny Trent (Steve Zahn), a friend you need at the worst times possible. During one of the scenes, the group had to run across an open field with the snake right on their tails. Kenny came up with the idea of setting bait, which worked effectively, allowing them to escape. Another interesting aspect of Kenny is that he said he would quit alcohol, but during the vacation, he just returned to the addiction, even though the purpose was for them to work on the movie.
Overall, I liked the movie because of how funny and beautiful the scenes are, particularly the landscapes and weird moments I never expected to see. However, it wasn’t captivating enough for me to watch something of a similar genre, but I would still encourage anyone to give it a shot.
